After falling in love with his faith as a youth, he felt called to dedicate his life to leading young people to Christ. He began serving as a volunteer in youth ministry at his parish in 2009 and officially became the youth minister in 2017. In October 2023, he stepped into his current role as the Assoc. Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of San Jose, continuing his mission to accompany and empower young disciples.

As a priest, He has organized and led many outdoor events both for his parish and as the chaplain for Camp Pendola, i.e. nature hikes, outdoor masses, parish picnics, processions, etc.

Lori Smith has served in OCIA ministry since 2000 and has successfully transitioned her parish from a nine-month school year model to a year-round process. She has developed and implemented a Christian Initiation for Families process at St John the Baptist parish in Chico that serves unbaptized children of catechetical age and their parents. As Formation Chair of the Diocesan Christian Initiation Committee, Lori trains and mentors OCIA coordinators and teams in the Diocese of Sacramento.
