How communities of Faith can make a difference! Laudato Si-Caring for our common home is a call to building ministry. In Sacramento, Environmental justice issues harm some of the poorest families live and work. Learn how residents throughout California can engage in creating awareness to build healthier neighborhood and truly put Catholic Social Teaching into action.

About the Presenter: Herman is the founder and lead community organizer of the Sacramento Environmental Justice Coalition. An effort dedicated to raise awareness about environmental degradation's impact on low-income communities. He is inspired by the Papal Encyclical Laudato Si and its call to action to the world to get engaged and seek solutions to protect our common home.

Threading TOB through the year: Incorporating TOB in the yearly plan, not just a day.

Did you know your body has a theology? This workshop will give youth ministers ideas on how to thread Pope St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body into the youth ministry year in simple, meaningful, and memorable ways. ​

​About the Speaker: Klarrisa worked in parish youth and young adult ministry for 11 years at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in San Jose. She is currently in the certification program for the Theology of the Body Institute and co-authored and voices the "TOB Minutes" on various Catholic radio stations in the US.​

Discipling Teens & Young Adults in 2022
Cara Morales
Teens and young adults face numerous challenges in 2022 which leave them hurting, searching and lost. This workshop will explore the unique brokenness young people are dealing with today, and how we as parish leaders can pastorally respond and accompany them on their journey.

About the Presenter: Cara has worked with teens and their parents for 20 years: in youth ministry, campus ministry, and teaching theology at the high school level. For the last decade she worked as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Parenting Coach, helping young people and their families navigate the many storms of life that come their way.​

Baffled by the Annulment Process? Let's Talk!
Cheryl Tholcke and Fr. Mark Richards, JCL
Ministry and school leaders meet and know many people who may need clarification of their marital status in the Church. Join Cheryl and Father Mark as they provide an overview to the annulment process, including its connection to a Catholic's participation in the sacramental life. Bring your questions and curiosity; we will also address some common myths about annulments. Time is provided to answer your questions! 

About the Presenter: Cheryl Tholcke has served as the Moderator of the Tribunal Chancery since 2014. Prior to this, she spent 34 years in youth ministry at the parish, diocesan, and national levels. She holds a Master of Pastoral Studies decree from Loyola University, New Orleans.
Father Mark Richards, JCL has served as Judicial Vicar since 2006. In addition to his role as Judicial Vicar, he is currently pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Sacramento. He holds a licentiate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC.

How to evangelize without being a jerk for Jesus

Do you sometimes feel like you have to choose between the speaking the truth and being kind?  Have you ever felt like your attempts to share the faith are counter-productive?  In this talk, Deacon Ken will layout a framework for how to evangelize in a secular world that emphasizes being sympathetic without sacrificing the truth.

About the Presenter: Deacon Ken Crawford grew up as an atheist and converted to the Catholic faith in his 20's. Between his conversion experience, his engineering background and his diaconal formation, Deacon Ken has a unique perspective that he enjoys sharing with others.  His monthly Faithful Questions talks are posted on YouTube and cover a wide range of topics, from war to prayer life to vaccines.

Fan the Fire: Faith Formation Models for Adults

For many adults, their day is filled with work and family; thus they have no time for their spiritual life. This workshop focuses on different models of Adult Faith Formation that we can offer in the parish. Participants will learn practical experiences that they can implement in their ministry or parish.

About the Presenter: Rosie has over thirty years of experience in parish ministry: youth ministry, catechesis, Catholic School Teacher, Pastoral Associate. She serves as Director of Formation and Evangelization in the Diocese of Fresno and has a Masters' Degree in Pastoral Studies from LMU.

Other states will see abortion ended while California is seeking to become a sanctuary for abortion with 22 abortion expansion bills and a constitutional amendment. About the Presenter: Molly C. Sheahan is Associate Director for Life & Family Advocacy for the California Catholic Conference.
A Sacramento native, Molly is a passionate advocate for the dignity of the human person. She once ran OneLife LA, the walk for life in Los Angeles, worked on Capitol Hill, and has a Master of Theological Studies in Marriage and Family from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute.

Baptism is the doorway to a life of grace. This moment of new beginnings can be for the entire family. Join Fr. Tim for a fresh take on the ministry of Baptism and learn how to create an effective process of formation that reengages the faith of the entire family.    

About the Presenter: Fr. Tim Donovan was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Orange in the summer of 2017. Before entering the seminary he was a youth minister and continues to have a heart for young people and their families. He loves the Church, spending time with his family, cooking, playing music, and his two French bulldogs. He is the Founder and President of Faith and Family Life Catholic Ministries.

Formed to Form: A resource for Catechist and Minister Formation

As catechists and ministers we have to continually form ourselves in order that we can best form others. This workshop will introduce you to finding opportunities for formation in all areas of development. This is highly recommended for new and experienced alike. ​

About the Presenter: Dr. Bill Keimig is the Assistant Director of the Catechetical Institute at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.  For 15 years, he served as the Director of Religious Education at St. Mary's of Piscataway Catholic Church in Clinton, MD. Along with this work, Dr. Keimig has served as a speaker in many other settings in over 70 dioceses.  He and his wife, Heather, have six children.

Cultivating a Team for Rural Parishes
Joe Perdreauville
Cultivating a team for ministry is essential. Cultivating a team in a rural parish can be different than how it may be done in urban or suburban settings.  This workshop will primarily focus on the team dynamics present in rural ministry settings.  As leaders we can do a lot, and usually feel responsible to "do it all!"  When we do try to do it all, it takes opportunity away from others to share their gifts.  All people bring different gifts and talents and empowering your parishioners to engage in ministry using their strongest talents can benefit the whole parish.  During our time together will look at ways to effectively recruit, train, empower and retain team members for your ministry in a rural parish.​

About the Presenter: Joe Perdreauville has been serving the people of the Diocese of Tucson professionally for 24 years, in parish ministry for 12 years, and in various diocesan offices and roles.  He has served the Church for 18 years in national organizations as board member, workshop presenter, and consultant.  He and his wife are Sponsor Couples in their parish.  Their children attend the University of Arizona.

Making family catechesis engaging

Family Catechesis is a parish based catechetical process which focuses on parents as the primary catechists of the faith. Are parents ready to teach faith to their children? This workshop focuses on the models of Family Catechesis used in the Diocese of Stockton to encourage and engage parents in the catechetical process and remain as ongoing formation. Learn creative ways of accompanying parents in their role as primary catechists of the faith.

About the Presenter:  Graciela serves has the Director for Office of Evangelization & Faith Formation for the Diocese of Stockton. And previously served as a Parish director, Coordinator of Faith Formation, and Catechist in a parish. She serves in Marriage Preparation ministry and is currently a lector at her parish. ​

Prison Ministry and Re-entry Services
​Rabbi Seth Castleman
Exploration of ministering to women and men returning to the community after incarceration. Workshop will include first-hand stories and an introduction to the work of Exodus Project. Workshop will also focus on the role of parishes in safely welcoming returning citizens into the congregation. ​

About the Presenter: Rabbi Seth is the Director of Exodus Project, a reentry program serving women and men returning from incarceration. Exodus Projects a special works of St. Vincent de Paul Sacramento and supported by the Diocese. Prior to starting Exodus Project 3.5 years ago, he consulted for the Diocese to develop this program and has run numerous programs in juvenile halls and adult prisons.

Join the discussion on how to support Youth Ministry in your parish.  Clergy and adult ministers play an important role in supporting youth ministers.  Find ways to welcome support and accompany the future of our church today!   

About the Presenters:  Deacon Rommel was ordained to the diaconate in 2018. He is involved in parish ministry supporting leaders at his home parish, Good Shepherd. He also serves on various diocesan committees including: Liturgical Committee - Chair, Eucharistic Revival , Intercultural Committee for Access Integration and Mission, Public Policy committee for Deacons, Religious Freedom Group for EGUSD service area.

Gonzalo Duran is the Director of Youth Ministry for The Grove Youth Ministry, serving the catholic parishes in Elk Grove. These include Good Shepherd, St. Joseph, and St. Maria Goretti. Gonzalo received his Bachelor's in Theological Studies from Loyola Marymount University and his Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law.  Prior to coming to Sacramento, Gonzalo was a Youth Minister in the Diocese of Orange for 8 years.

Gospel Music in the Holy Mass – Can we really sing that?​
Rob Robinson
What is gospel music and when did it come into use in Catholic parishes? Intended for both musicians and non-musicians, this workshop will explore the history and development of this uniquely American style, detailing the theory of scales, rhythm patterns and vocal production. We will discuss how various types of music are used in the Holy Mass in America today. At the end we will (figurately) hold hands and sing “Kum Ba Yah!”

About the presenter: Rob Robinson serves as director of the Sacred Heart Gospel Choir at St. Boniface parish in San Francisco. He previously worked as a composer, musical director, actor and teacher. Rob is passionate about exploring ways to incorporate a variety of traditions in parish music in California today.

Scouting Is Catholic Youth Ministry

Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry states, “Youth ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community.” The aims of Scouting are character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness. The goals of Catholic youth ministry match Scouting’s three aims: character development, preparation for responsible citizenship, and physical and mental fitness. ​

About the presenter: Jon has been involved with the diocese' Catholic Committee on Scouting since 2013, as a retreat volunteer and Committee Chair. He enjoys blending together my 10+ years experience as a Confirmation Catechist and 25+ years of Boy Scouting!

Into the Breach: Catholic Men in Action

Based on the exhortation, Into the Breach: An Apostolic Exhortation to Catholic Men, identifies the crise of faith facing that the Church today and presents a vision of the role of Catholic men in combatting it. Join us! Together in Brotherhood, men can find the support they need to grow in virtue and to take action to serve Christ and others. Exhortation sets out to address three primary questions:
  1. What does it mean to be a Catholic man?
  2. How does a Catholic man love?
  3. Why is fatherhood, fully understood, so crucial for every man?

Building Community in the Classroom
Matt Reiswig
How can catechists and DREs help move from the traditional classroom model to fostering an environment where students can do more than just simply learn facts about the faith? This workshop will help catechists and DREs to create an environment of discipleship where students can learn about the faith, experience the Lord in a new way, and grow together as a community of believers.
