Passing on the faith to engage and accompanyPart 1: “Passing on the Faith: The Changing Territory for Ministry”
Where has everyone gone? And can we bring them home? Recent research has identified the challenge of engaging children, young adults, and adults in the faith journey. Young people are searching elsewhere to meet their fundamental hungers and yearnings and they are crafting a religious identity separate from our faith communities. Our Catholic schools have an essential role in being Church for our students and their families. Part 2: “Engagement and Accompaniment: A New Ministry Map” We need to identify the practical pastoral strategies that enhance affiliation and engagement with the faith community and examine implications for parish and school life. As ministry leaders and as caring individuals, we will explore what it means to accompany young people on their spiritual journeys. And we will propose Catholicism as a comprehensive way of living – a way of encountering Jesus amidst the chaos. Presented by:

Interrupting racism in school and parish settingsThe current national crisis of racial justice as well as recurrent concern about anti blackness poses some challenges and opportunities for engaging in meaningful critical dialogues about race relations and social justice. The presentation defines key elements and forms of racism, analyzes their experiences or cases in the school environment, and identifies key strategies and tips for positive response and interruption by school and/or parish staff and volunteers, plus some resources for further learning and follow up support. The session will be interactive, including lecture presentations, short exercises, and group activity.
