Come join us as we present, “Tolton: From Slave to Priest” on Thursday, September 26th. The play tells the story of Venerable Fr. Augustus Tolton, the first African American Catholic priest. A young Augustus Tolton desired to be a priest but was not accepted to any seminaries in the United States because he was black. He travelled to Rome where he studied for the priesthood and later ordained in 1886. He returned to the United States where he started St. Monica’s Parish in the South Side of Chicago. “Tolton” is a powerful multi-media live production, filled with music, drama and inspiring performances.
